Applicant Process

Applications are closed. Projects are underway.

Local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to create an account in the ZESBI Application Portal to apply for the ZESBI incentive project in Application Part A. Applicants who are preliminarily awarded funding during Application Part A will move on to Application Part B to provide additional documentation. 

Once all Application Part B submissions are reviewed and funding is reserved, Applicants will be notified of the next steps to complete Application Part C – Step 1. At this stage, Applicants will select their new zero-emission (ZE) school bus type and final charger quantity and type(s).

All process steps will cover technology selection through permitting, construction, and project commissioning. Please note that funding does not become binding until a Grant Agreement is signed by the Applicant and countersigned by CALSTART, and a binding purchase order is submitted for the new ZE school buses in Application Part C – Step 1.
